Irish citizens are coming #HometoVote and no, YOU’RE crying

If you fancied a nice little weep today, head to Twitter and search for #HomeToVote.

In the run up to the Irish referendum on abortion, thousands of Irish citizens living abroad have flocked home to cast their vote in this monumental decision. Most of the people returning are doing so to repeal the 8th amendment, that restricts women having an abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

Both men and women have come from as far as Australia, South America, and the UAE to  make this huge journey so Irish women seeking an abortion don’t have to.

People who can’t make it have also been offering to pay for flights for someone else to go in their place. Others have come together to donate to people’s flights. It’s truly beautiful.
