Today saw, for want of a better phrase, an absolute shit show in Parliament.
It started with Brexit Secretary, David Davis, resigning. He basically didn’t feel like he could continue in the role cos he didn’t agree with how Brexit is being handled, saying that the U.K. was “giving away too much too easily”.
Then to add insult to injury, Boris Johnson resigned as Foreign Secretary, sending Theresa a scathing letter cos he’s ALSO not happy about the way she’s handling Brexit.
He didn’t hold back, saying Brexit “should be about opportunity and hope” and a “chance to do things differently”, but “that dream is dying, suffocated by needless self doubt”.
Basically, he’s sick of fannying about (I mean, aren’t we all?) – even though he was the one campaigning for Brexit, he’s now throwing a hissy fit cos it’s not being done the way he wanted, and Theresa has no confidence.
Apparently she’s been preparing for a “no deal” scenario, “with the result that we appear to be heading for a semi-Brexit, with large parts of the economy still locked in the EU system, but with no UK control over that system”.
“It now seems that the opening bid of our negotiations involves accepting that we are not actually going to be able to make our own laws.”
At this point, it’s looking like there’s a reeaaalll lack of confidence in the PM and her Brexit strategy. Literally anything could happen now.
Will she step down? Will we actually just decide “do you know what, this has been a shit idea from the start and we should just sack it off once and for all?”. Let’s bloody hope so. Stay tuned.
